Special EventsEvent Info Silent Auction You are invited to participate in a Silent Auction where anyone can donate items such as turnings, wood, tools, etc., to be sold to the highest bidder. All proceeds will go towards the UWS Youth Scholarships benefiting youth interested in woodturning. The Great Egg Cup Race Come see who is "The Fastest Chisel in the West"! This is a great friendly competition where you can race against the clock or a teammate for the best time in turning an egg cup. This competition is open to all - whether you are a novice or a pro! Contest Parameters: Each contestant will be supplied with a piece of hardwood 2 x 2 x 4". The wood will be prepared for mounting on a scroll chuck. Two lathes will be set up to allow two contestants to compete against each other at the same time. Prizes will be awarded at the Closing Session to winners in a variety of categories. Penturners Rendezvous This annual gathering of pen turners includes new comers, old hands, and pen turning wannabes. The event will have pen related vendors, a pen display of works from turners from the USA and other countries, and unique pen demonstrations. Registration fee of $10 will be collected by Pen Turners’ Rendezvous associates at beginning of event and is not included with Utah Woodturning Symposium Registration. Door prize tickets will also be available for purchase. Woodturners' Swap Meet Thursday 6th, 6:00 -8:30 pm* Set up begins at 5:00 pm in Parking Lot U •$30 per Parking Space* or 2 for $50! Reserve your spot at registration check-in. Spaces sold on a First Come, First Serve basis. * Single auto-sized space. The swap meet is not intended for commercial suppliers, trucks, trailers, or large amounts of wood. Trailer/Truck Parking and selling is not permitted in the U lot at any other time during the symposium. Presenters' Showcase Watch presenters show off their turning skill and efficiency by making a quality finished item in only fifteen minutes. These turnings will be available for purchase through the silent auction. Instant Gallery Check-in: Wednesday 5th 4:30-7:00 pm Thursday 6th 8:00-10:00 am Check-out: Saturday 2:45-3:45 pm *Early check-out available to those with prior approval. Gallery Hours: Thursday 11:00 am - 8:00 pm Friday 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Saturday 8:00 am - 2:45 pm Each year the Instant Gallery improves in size and quality of work. It will be open to participants and the public beginning Thursday morning and ending Saturday afternoon. Work will be displayed in a gallery setting as we are looking forward to an impressive display. Works may be placed for sale for or display only. Works for sale may be purchased at the Instant Gallery sales counter within the booth. Participants are encouraged to bring up to three pieces of their best work to share with others. If the pieces are small (less than 3" dia.) bring more if you like. Demonstrators are asked to bring up to 6 pieces of their work for display. Turnings to be displayed should be left at the Instant Gallery when you check in for the conference.Instant Gallery participants are invited to submit to the gallery a one page biographical sketch, resume, or brochure of their work. This will give gallery visitors useful information about the turners and their work. *The Instant Gallery and Silent Auction are the only Utah Woodturning Symposium events open to the general public who are not paid participants of the symposium. All pieces are subject to a 10% sales commission held by the Utah Woodturning Symposium Instant Gallery.
